North Yorkshire Support Group Meeting 9th of August

posted 8 Sept 2015, 04:42 by Richard Eastoe   [ updated 8 Sept 2015, 04:43 ]
In August we all met up again at the beautiful Wydale Hall near Scarborough. There were about 20 familiar faces alongside a few folk who were new to the group.

With the sandwiches, biscuits and tea arriving early we abandoned our plans for the agenda and tucked in ! Wydale is a great venue for us and the big room we had was laid out so that we could all mingle and chat among ourselves.

Once done with the refreshments we
started the meeting. Richard read out a few news items; reminding the group about our website and highlighting some of the recently uploaded reports about vasculitis education days at Hammersmith hospital (see here). He also told the group about our plans for  more support groups in different areas. Hopefully we'll have some news soon about a new meeting in South Yorkshire so keep checking back !

Richard also advertised the newly formed Northumberland and Cumbria support group being held in September. This might be closer to get to for some of our more northerly members.

More details can be found here :

Richard then handed over to our speaker for the day, Wendy Murray.

Wendy is a CBT therapist working in primary care in Airedale. Her presentation to the West Yorkshire group back in March proved popular so we had invited her back to talk to the North Yorkshire group. Her presentation was about using Mindfulness techniques to help manage anxiety, depression and pain in long term conditions like vasculitis. The presentation can be found on the useful documents section of the website along with the associated handouts.

We do hope everyone who came along enjoyed the talk and found it useful to meet and chat to other people living with vasculitis. The next meeting will be the West Yorkshire meeting in Gomersal in October, see here for more details.
